Pie Day

One of my favorite days of the year is pie day. It is held Wednesday before Thanksgiving and all the sisters and nieces who can attend. We make a ton of pies and always try something new and often we have a few family friends come join the fun.

This year we made at least 22 pies. Some went to other Thanksgivings but the majority stayed at the Stewart home for our Thanksgiving feast. I even learned a new trick to get the pie crust into the pie pan (thanks Carolyn). Unfortunately my sister Sally wasn’t able to make it to Pie day and she usually rolls the pie dough so I did a lot of the rolling.

Photo: 19 pies. 5 dozen chocolate covered Oreos and a whole lot of dishes later.. our pie day is complete!

Photo: I'm thankful for my family's amazing bakers, I didn't have to do a thing except eat

My niece also helped me make chocolate covered Oreos for a teacher appreciation gift. So we ended up making a lot of yummy treats.

Bruises

So it seems we have been abusive parents lately. A few weeks ago Thing 1 slammed Thing 2’s fingers in the closet door (his hand was in the hinge side). The next day Thing 1 ran around the corner to the bathroom and into the door ending up with a huge goose egg on her forehead. The next day Thing 1 slipped on a piece of paper and hit her head on a little table in her room getting another goose egg on her forehead. Friday we aren’t sure what happened exactly but she woke up with two black eyes that progressively got worse throughout the week. They looked the worst when we were seeing family on pie day, Thanksgiving, and for our trip to Boise. I even put makeup on her when we went to have some pictures done with family in Boise.

I think Jake took a few while we were in Boise but you get the idea. It was a bad couple weeks at our house, but luckily Thing 1 is looking better.

4 month stats

october 2012 021october 2012 022

Baby P had his 4 month appointment which meant we got all the measurements and stats.

  • Weight 13.3 lbs (~15th percentile)
  • Height 24.5 inches (~20th percentile)
  • Has rolled from belly to back a few times
  • Has rolled from back to belly (on Saturday)
  • Was sleeping through the night from 8 to about 4 or 5 but has had a cold and shots that made him revert back to waking up at 1 or 2
  • Loves to watch his brother and sister play
  • Loves to be tickled by dad
  • Yells to protest
  • growls, coos, and smiles

It also meant shots. As I was sitting in the office waiting I was thinking about how much I love Baby P and don’t want him to have to suffer. I also know that the diseases we have immunizations for are much worse than getting the shots. P doesn’t know this or can’t see it now.

I thought about how much our Heavenly Father loves each of His children and how he doesn’t want us to suffer but gives us trials that make us stronger so we won’t have to suffer so much later. Maybe we can’t see the benefit while we are in the middle of our trial, hopefully we will have faith that our Heavenly Father knows what we need, just like I know what P needs.

Today while I was away

tent1tent2

Today while I was at work the kids made a tent. Looks like a lot of fun. I think even baby P got to go inside and roll around.

belly time

All the kids had some belly time today. Baby P rolled from his back to front today. A few weeks ago he rolled from front to back and has done it a few more times. I’m afraid we will have a mobile baby way to soon.

The first snow

october 2012 007october 2012 003october 2012 002october 2012 005october 2012 001october 2012 008

We were woken up to it snowed on October 25th. So we got the kids all dressed in their snow clothes and let them go out and play in the inch of snow. It was before 8 AM and they were back inside in about 20 minutes. But you can tell from the smiles that they were excited and had fun. It was a good trial run for the snow clothes. Thing 1 needs some new boots and I hadn’t got to ordering Thing 2 some snow pants yet. So hopefully we will be ready next time it snows.

Pulled Over

So tonight on my way home from work I got pulled over for the first time ever. I was talking to Jake on the phone and said oh crap and hung up on him. I knew my blinker doesn’t work in my car. I just drive it to work and home so I figured it wasn’t a huge deal. When I got pulled over he said there were two reasons first my tail lights weren’t on at all (with day light savings it was pretty dark at 6:45) and my registration had expired.

He was super nice and tried to help me turn on my tail lights (the headlights were on but we couldn’t get the tail lights to work). He asked how far I had to drive home and it is about 3 miles on a highway so he told me to drive with my hazards on. Then he checked my license and registration (expired in July—right after P was born). No ticket, hurray!

I made it home and Jake played around for a few minutes and got the lights to come on and showed me how, he says there must be a short or fuse problem because they didn’t automatically come on. Someday I will get a nice car to drive to work, but it won’t happen until we pay off the Acadia and our student loans.

Some days I feel like I drive the junkiest car of all my coworkers and I’m a pharmacist. I do feel blessed that it still runs and has had few problems it has 230,000+ miles on it and still starts every morning.
