Birthday Cake Video

I realized that I hadn't posted any video of the babies eating their cake. Enjoy!

Random

Here are a few random pictures of our everyday life.

Brushing Teeth

Thing 1 drinking water out of a glass
Thing 2 drinking water out of a glass
Getting ready for church on Sunday, this is a task for me. I usually have to get up at 7:15 and quickly shower before Jake leaves for his meetings. We have breakfast, get ready, then have a nap, then I have to do hair and hopefully get a snack in and then out the door before 11. No wonder I'm exhausted by the time church is over.
Thing 1 has some bunny slippers that she loves to wear, I think it is super cute.

First Haircut

This is technically the 2nd haircut but my mom has the pictures of his first haircut and I haven't ever gotten them. We just took off the long wispy hair the first time. This time he had enough hair we had to trim the sides and trim the top. He didn't like it very much. He cried most of the time and I had to hold him still.

Look how grown up he looks.

Walking

Thing 1 and Thing 2 have decided that walking is the best form of transportation. They walk everywhere. Thing 1 gets up in the middle of the floor by herself. Thing 2 has to crawl over to something to get up. It's fun to watch them walk around.

Thing 1 has been saying "kick kick kick" while swimming, riding in the shopping cart, and sitting in her car seat. I finally got her to do it on video.

Family Pictures

Here are the family pictures I promised . We took a lot and it was hard to decide which ones to post. So I tried to just pick one from each group that our family was in. Becky's sister-in-law Brenna did a wonderful job. Large group pictures are difficult even when you don't have small children to deal with. We ended up with some really good ones. I'm excited to get some printed and up on the wall.

I had to put two pictures of this group because Thing 2 was eating his hand it one and actually looking at the camera for the other one.

1 Year Stats

We went to see Dr. Beckett on September 7 and had our 1 year appointment. We had shots and it was sad, but the rest of the day wasn't quite as bad as our last round of shots. I think their legs were sore but we didn't have fevers. If you want to review their stats from a year ago click here. Here are their stats...

Thing 1
17.69 lbs
4th percentile in weight
28 inches
15th percentile in height

Thing 2
20.19 lbs
12th percentile in weight
28.25 inches
7th percentile in height

Big Birthday Bash

We had a big birthday party for Thing 1 and Thing 2 on Saturday September 4th. We wanted to have a party that Jake's parents could come to, because Wednesday evening would be hard to make. So we got some balloons and made new birthday hats and partied.

We had a picnic outside with friends and family. Then we opened presents and had lots of cake.

After the party we went to the Eastern Idaho State Fair with Jake's parents and sister Becky for dinner. We ate to much and walked through the photography booth and the commercial buildings. We also saw Lanae's cake she entered for the sugar competition.

I handed the bunch of balloons to Thing 1 and she let them go while I was taking a picture

Unfortunately the ceiling fan was on
(Luckily Dad got them unstuck)

Cake--yum but a little cold with ice cream
(we are doing their own cakes on Saturday for their party)

We were remembering all day what we did at what time of the day. I had an appointment scheduled for 9 or 10 in the morning. We went in and talked to Dr. Bourkovski. I had been on bed rest for a month and was sick of sitting around and worried that I wouldn't have any time to spend at home with the babies before going back to work. So I wanted to go to work until I went into labor (I had been having contractions for a month). She said because Thing 2 was breach she wanted to do a c-section. She didn't want me to come to the hospital in labor and have to do an emergency c-section so she wanted to do it that day.

She told us to go home get everything we needed and check into the hospital. I was dilated to a 4, which was more than I had been at previous checks. So she called it pre-term labor. Before my appointment I had eaten so we had to wait 8 hours before they could do surgery. So we sat in the hospital and waited. They told us about 6 PM we would be in surgery, but it was 8 before they were prepping me. It was the longest wait of my life. We watched the U.S. open on TV and spent time in an uncomfortable hospital bed for hours connected to the monitors.

We finally went into surgery and at 8:31 PM Thing 1 was born and at 8:35 Thing 2 was born. They were whisked away to be seen by our pediatrician and taken care of by wonderful OB nurses. Thing 2 didn't want to come and had difficulties breathing at first. Thing 1 did great at first and then crashed, so it was a difficult time for Jake. I didn't really know any of this because I was stuck in recovery for half an hour.
By the time I got out of recovery the babies were bathed and wrapped up. What a stressful but wonderful day. I love these kids they are wonderful and we are so happy to have both of them.
