Happy Birthday Grammy

Happy Birthday from Thing 1 and Thing 2

My Mom’s birthday was yesterday. I talked to her but forgot to have the kids call her. Here is her birthday message.

Big Kid Beds

Thing 2 climbed out of his bed during nap time on Wednesday. Thing 1 saw and tried as well. She didn’t fare as well as him and got her leg stuck in the top rail. If she had gotten over the side she would have been dangling upside down out of the crib. Luckily, Thing 2 made his way into the living room to find us and we got to her in time. Jake promptly took down the cribs. Today we set up big kid beds for them.

The baby pictures are the first time they were in their cribs. They are in preemie outfits and looking back at those little clothes reminds me just how little they once were. I love these two little ones, now how to teach them to stay in their beds and go to sleep.

Potty Training

How do people do it. I bought a potty training guide and got the kids all excited about the whole thing. We bought character underwear and lots of high fiber snacks and drinks. Jake went back to the store and bought another potty and more underwear. I didn’t have any idea a kid could pee so many times in one day, let alone two kids.

The guide said not to use pull ups and to get rid of every diaper. I borrowed some pull ups from my sister tonight because I just couldn’t do the night time plan. I’m not saying we didn’t have success. I have two kids who tell me they need to go potty most of the time and they even know how to stall at bedtime/naptime by telling me they need to go potty.

I hope tomorrow goes a little smother with a few less accidents. I also hope Thing 2 learns to hold it a little longer so we aren’t running to the bathroom every 10 minutes.

We did spend about 20 minutes outside today and ran inside to use the  potty without an accident (victory?). Two more days according to the potty training guide, I hope we didn’t set ourselves back by using pull ups tonight. Wish us luck.

I should have gotten pictures of them running around in a shirt and underwear, that is what we did most of the day.

Remodel Continued

So it has been a while since I blogged about our remodel. It is going very well. We have done a lot since the last post. We finished the staircase, Jake took down a wall or two to make a closet bigger and to open up the office. The walls weren’t quite as hard to take down as lath and plaster but the boards were panels and difficult to take down. We put up drywall with the help of my niece Nicole, my Dad, and Mom also helped. I dropped a piece of drywall on my foot so it was bruised and purple for a couple weeks.

We hired a guy to do the finish work, he mudded and taped and then he textured. It looks really good, now we are almost ready to paint. We just need to finish cleaning up. These two little helpers were trying to help me scrape the mud off the floor. It was fun to have their help but Thing 1 got pretty messy, I don’t think the picture shows just how dusty she got.

Lagoon

We went to Utah a few weeks ago to pick out carpet for our remodel. We spent the night at my brother’s house and then went to Lagoon the next day. My sister and brother planned it all out and we had a lot of fun. The other families stayed for a second day. Our kids were pretty worn out from one day and it was difficult to get them to go on any rides. We finally got Thing 2 pretty comfortable on rides, but Thing 1 had a runny nose and tears streaming down her face for the rides we put her on. Thing 2 loved the carousel and they both enjoyed the train.

I really enjoy the roller coasters, so I tried to ride them all at least once. For our last ride of the night Jake and I went on Wicked, it was a blast. Next year should be fun hopefully the kids will be tall enough to go on a few more rides with us.

The both liked the ride until it started moving. Then Thing 1 had a melt down.

Don’t Forget

So there are a lot of little things you think I won’t forget. I won’t forget how Thing 2 growls instead of talks. I won’t forget how Thing 1 pulls out her pig tails all the time (mostly when it is inconvenient). I won’t forget how much they love ice cream cones, or how they chanted “ice cream cone, ice cream cone” at the Dairy Queen drive-thru. I won’t forget that whenever we ask what they want for dinner they say "Arby’s”.

I won’t forget how Thing 1 loves to get wet in the sprinkler, she even sits on it. I won’t forget how Thing 2 tells me “mom put shoes on right now!” or wants me to do anything he says “right now”.  I also never want to forget how Thing 2 stared at another tables food at a restaurant put his head down on the table and said “munch please”.

I don’t want to forget how they stared up at their new cousin and patted his bum like I did and wanted to hold him. I don’t want to forget how they say “love you mom” or sing “I love you”. I don’t want to forget fishy kisses from Thing 2 because he has fish on a pair of his jammies. I don’t want to forget how they would stand on their tippy toes to see out the front window, now they can see out flat footed.

I can’t forget that together they learned how to push over the baby gate. Don’t forget that Thing 2 loves to pick raspberries and eat them. I don’t want to forget how much they liked going to the library the first time. Or how Thing 1 can put her crocks on all by herself and gets them on the right feet most of the time. Don’t forget that they like to color, read stories, and swim in freezing cold water. I love how they dance and how they sing.

I love my two little ones, it is amazing how fast time is moving and how fast they learn and grow. I hope I never forget all the little things. I guess that is why I try to write them down.

Splash Park

August 002August 003August 034August 038August 035August 008August 012August 026August 027August 032August 033

We went to the Splash Park in Rexburg last week. It was a blast and it is free. Thing 1 had a ton of fun in the water with her cousins. Thing 2 was scared of the water and said “all done” before he even got in the water at all. I don’t know why he is afraid of fountains, he is fine with the sprinkler but hates fountains. Aunt Shelly offered to take him on the carousel and he really liked riding the horse and wanted to do it again. Thing 1 was pretty nervous  on the carousel. It is funny how they have different fears.
